Att bli förälder till ett prematurt barn - Litteraturstudie/Becoming a parent when a child is born premature - Literature review

Background: Almost every 20th child is borne premature in Sweden, before the parents are ready to care for a new family member. The parents need to cope with the stress and anxiety of having their newborn child in the neonatal ward and influenced by nursing care of neonatal staff grow their parental role.Purpose: The aim of this study was to illustrate experiences of parenthood within the care of premature at the neonatal ward.Method: A review where 18 articles between 2000 and 2005 were chosen and examined. The articles were analysed according to VIPS, which facilitates the practical use of the result.Result: The study reveals that parenthood is experienced as a time dependent process with three phases, primary, secondary and tertiary, where the parent?s needs and experiences changed character. The parents experienced that they developed from passive to active in the care of the premature child when the neonatal staff guided their participation, gave information/education and support.

Mycket behöver förändras! Barnmorskors uppfattning om postpartumvård när barnet behöver neonatalvård

Aim: To examine how midwives describe good and safe postpartum care of mothers with infants in neonatal care, and which prerequisites and obstacles they see to giving good and safe care while minimizing time of separation. Method: Semi structured qualitative interviews with ten midwives at two maternity wards in Uppsala. The interviews were recorded, transcribed verbatim and processed by manifest analysis. Results: Three categories were identified, Good and safe care, Organization as an obstacle and The midwife role. Good and safe postpartum care of mothers with infants in neonatal care required knowledge, appropriate equipment, good guidelines, possibility to see the mother, contact between mother and infant and good collaboration between the maternity and neonatal wards.

Introduction: The complexity of the neonates? way of expressing pain is a difficulttask for the pediatric nurse. The Swedish national guidelines for prevention and treatmentof pain in the newborn infant is suggesting that departments regularly use structuredmethods, such as pain assessment instrument, for the assessment of pain in the neonatalperiod. Previous research shows that pain assessment instruments are only used in abouthalf of all pain assessments in Sweden. Neonate's cannot verbally communicate their pain,and are therefore dependent on the pediatric nurse to acknowledge the pain.

Background: About five percent of the infants being born in Sweden are cared for in a neonatal unit because of their prematurity. Breastfeeding and breast milk is considered to be the best nutrition for infants in general and for premature infants in particular. The premature infant, depending on how premature, may not be able to breastfeed effectively due to their immaturity. Stress, anxiety and fatigue are factors that affect breast milk production in a negative direction and these feelings are common in the neonatal unit.Aim: To illuminate mothers? experiences of breastfeeding the premature infant in the neonatal unit.Method: A literature review of eight studies with a qualitative research approach, published between the year 2000 and 2012 was conducted.

Kartläggning och jämförelse av träning i neonatal återupplivning på svenska sjukhus

The purpose of this study was to survey the occurrence of and obstacles to team training inneonatal life support in Swedish hospitals and, accordingly, to compare university hospitalswith other hospitals. The study included all the managers in 37 pediatric wards whoparticipated in telephone interviews with the aid of a questionnaire. The results showed that81 % of the Swedish hospitals that have a paediatric ward train the staff in neonatal lifesupport. All of the university hospitals and 74 % of the other hospitals are running training insome form. The methods of training varied and so did the occurrence of training.

MITT BARNS LIV VILAR I ERA HÄNDER : En intervjustudie om att bli förälder till ett prematurt barn i behov av neonatal intensivvård

Bakgrund: Inom neonatal intensivvård vårdas prematura barn med sina föräldrar och personalen bör ha ett helhetsperspektiv på barnet och dess familj. Två metoder som används för att bland annat skapa förutsättningar för föräldra- barnkontakt, är Newborn Individualized Development Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) och känguruvård. Det finns ett flertal hinder som kan försvåra föräldra- barnkontakten när ett barn föds prematurt och sjuksköterskan har en central roll i att främja kontakten. Syfte: Syftet med denna studie är att belysa upplevelsen av att bli förälder till ett prematurt barn i behov av neonatal intensivvård. Metod: Datainsamlingen har skett genom semistrukturerade intervjuer.

Anhörigas uppfattning om vården på en hospiceavdelning : En kvantitativ studie

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate relatives opinions of information, interaction, support, participation and care at a hospice unit. The aim was also to investigate whether there was a difference between women and men.Method: The study is a descriptive quantitative cross-sectional study. A questionnaire with closed and open-end questions was sent out to 66 relatives to patients who had died at the hospice unit. The closed questions were analyzed with SPSS. A content analyze was used for the open-end questions.Results: The most of the relatives were fully pleased with information, interaction, support and care.

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a special unit for patients who is in the need for emergency life-sustaining measures and every patient has complex medical- technical equipment. The experiences of a critical illness and the needs of critical care are experienced in different ways. The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences from patients in the ICU and how this experience has an influence on the patients. The method was a study of literature with a qualitative inception based on eight scientific articles and the analysis of content has been inspired by Graneheim and Lundman (2003). The result of the study is presented by four categories: to loose the ability to make themselves understood, to be forced to adjust to the environment of caring, to have the lack of connection with reality and to be in an intensive care environment, The results showed that patients in the ICU are affected by the attitude from the staff, the equipment around them as well as the sounds and lights in the environment there.

Introduktion: Vid en riskförlossning är det viktigt att det finns ett fungerande samarbete mellan vårdpersonalen på neonatal och förlossningen då omvårdnaden inkluderar både mor och barn och de bör ses som en helhet.Syfte: Syftet med studien är att beskriva barnsjuksköterskors upplevelse av samarbete mellan neonatal och förlossningen vid riskförlossning. Metod: En kvalitativ metod med en fenomenologisk ansats användes i denna pilotstudie. Två barnsjuksköterskor intervjuades.Resultat: Studiens resultat redovisas under fyra huvudteman, Att det finns ett samarbete, Att befinna sig i olika organisationer, Att tränas i samarbete och Att förbereda föräldrarna genom samarbete. Barnsjuksköterskorna beskrev hinder och möjligheter som de upplever finns för samarbete mellan neonatal och förlossningen. Hinder som de upplevde var t.ex.

Tidig extubering efter hjärtkirurgi : Intensivvårdssjuksköterskans kunskap om tidig extubering och deras syn på faktorer som påverkar tiden till extubering

Early extubation of cardiac surgery patients has become increasingly important. The assessment of the patient before an early extubation is crucial and the intensive care nurses (ICU nurses) in this estimation is there for very important.The aim of this study was to examine critical care nurses' knowledge of early extubation, and what view ICU nurse has about factors that affect the time to extubation of cardiac surgery patients.A quantitative approach with descriptive and comparative design was used. Selection was all ICU nurses at a thoracic intensive care unit who were clinically active in patient care.The study showed that ICU nurses had good knowledge of why an early extubation was essential. However, the knowledge about the unit?s extubation criteria was low.
